What is hypochondroplasia?

Hypochondroplasia is a form of short-limbed dwarfism. This condition affects the conversion of cartilage into bone (a process called ossification), particularly in the long bones of the arms and legs. Hypochondroplasia is similar to another skeletal disorder called achondroplasia, but the features tend to be milder.

All people with hypochondroplasia have short stature. The adult height for men with this condition ranges from 138 centimeters to 165 centimeters (4 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 5 inches). The height range for adult women is 128 centimeters to 151 centimeters (4 feet, 2 inches to 4 feet, 11 inches).

People with hypochondroplasia have short arms and legs and broad, short hands and feet. Other characteristic features include a large head, limited range of motion at the elbows, a sway of the lower back (lordosis), and bowed legs. These signs are generally less pronounced than those seen with achondroplasia and may not be noticeable until early or middle childhood. Some studies have reported that a small percentage of people with hypochondroplasia have mild to moderate intellectual disability or learning problems, but other studies have produced conflicting results.

oh Shot where are you??

OK ,so I got a quick call that I needed to be at a funeral in TN in a day in a half. Wow. So we had Awana Wednesday night and I needed to leave on Thursday. It stormed and rained all night. I woke up late, so I couldn't pack. We went to school, picked up Carter, I packed and put everything in the car in pouring rain. I forgot Coleman's needles / alcohol pads so I went back home to get it. Then I left the whole thing at home. Crap! now have to miss two days of CoCo shots. GRRRRR!

  1. I enjoyed reading your blog. My Maggie turned 3 on Feb 8th. We found out she was Hypo last spring. I was trying to get information from the link on your blog about HGH the links didn't work. What made you decide to do HGH and do you know if it works?

  2. We have only been giving Coleman the HGH's since Christmas. The endocronologisist we see has told us it takes a while to see results/ or lack of results,so we are waiting. We have an apt. with her next tursday and Ill let eveyone know what we find out.
We decided to try the growth hormones to give him every oppertunity at an easier, normal life. He is healthy and happy so if they don't work than we are going to be able to tell him we did everything we could for you but that being a little shorter does not change him. We understand the belief in not doing them because the children are perfect as they are, and we agree. We just had this oppertunity and little side effects from the shots and we jumped in with both feet. Hope this helps!
